This is first major recurve medal for Volga Archery Academy

There is a significance attached to the silver medal won by Vijayawada archer Bommadevara Dhiraj at the Asian Continental tournament in Dhaka (Bangladesh) last week to select Asian archers for the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2018.

The teenager, honing his skills at the city-based Volga Archery Academy, lost to his fellow Indian Akash 4-6 in the cadet boys’ final in recurve segment and helped India bag both the eligible slots for the World Youth Olympics Games.

In fact this is first major recurve medal for Volga Archery Academy after the management decided to concentrate more on recurve segment.

Dhiraj, who is pursuing Intermediate at SRR & CVR College, flew to Ahmedabad from Dhaka to be part of the State team at the School Games Federation under-19 National archery championship and went on to win five gold medals to emerge as the best archer and overall champion of the event.
