City-based endocrinologist presented a paper on metabolic surgery at a three-day international conference, ‘Advanced Technologies and treatment for Diabetes’ in Paris.

Dr Sunil Kumar Kota shared with the colleagues at the conference his novel ‘Metabolic Surgery Score’ system that used six pre-operative parameters of a diabetic to predict the success rate of the remission of diabetes following the bariatric surgery. Dr Sunil Kumar also discussed with other participants his experience with anti-diabetic drug – Saroglitazar — discovered by Indian scientists.

His paper was about the results he obtained in seventy type 2 diabetics who underwent “Ileal interposition with Sleeve Gastrectomy/diverted sleeve gastrectomy,” a type of modified bariatric or weight loss surgery.

Dr Sunil Kumar was the only participant from Andhra Pradesh and one of 11 participants from India at a conference attended by 450 delegates from all over the world.
